Learning with head, heart and hands

We werken vanuit de vrijschool-pedagogiek: een onderwijsvorm waarin denken, voelen en doen evenveel ruimte krijgen.

Waldorf education, in plain terms

Waldorf education is a form of education that arose more than a hundred years ago and is now taught at thousands of schools worldwide. The starting point is that education follows the natural development of children. That is why we offer education that is rhythmic, artistic and meaningful, with attention for head, heart and hands.

Children learn not only with their intellect, but also by experiencing, feeling and doing. Stories, music, movement, craft, nature, the seasons and the seasonal festivals all play an important role in this.

Block teaching

Three weeks of the same subject every morning, in a two-hour block. We call this "block teaching" or "period teaching". No scattered quarter-hours of history between maths and gym, but real depth.

In class 1 that might be a block on learning to write; in class 4 a block on Roman history; in class 6 a block on physics. Each block is concluded with a project the children make in their own exercise book.

Head · Heart · Hands

Three words that capture what matters most to us. Good development calls for all three. Knowledge (head), feeling (heart), and doing (hands). Only when all three are exercised does a well-rounded and resilient person emerge.
